Leeds Tenpin Bowling to Install Disabled Accessibility

By Eleanor Schliefke

A young girl by the name of Rylie recently posted to her TikTok account about a trip to Tenpin bowling in Leeds. She visited this Tenpin location under the impression that they would have wheelchair access – as this is what was stated on their website – but upon arrival, she was quickly disappointed to realise that this was not true. If she wanted to access the bowling alley, it was only accessible via a long set of stairs which she could not get down due to being in a wheelchair.

This Tiktok quickly gained traction, with around 427.8K views and 53.3K likes at the time of writing. It also received many comments complaining about the lack of disabled access and suggesting that Rylie complain. However, Tenpin quickly turned this situation around.

Rylie created a follow-up Tiktok to update her followers on the situation. She received a phone call from the manager of Tenpin bowling, who told Rylie that they didn’t realise it stated on their website they had wheelchair accessibility, as they claimed they had used someone external to create their website and this crucial piece of information had been overlooked. Rylie said the manager went on to say this was not an excuse and apologized for the situation, and that he had spoken to the CEO of Tenpin bowling who had decided to install a lift into the building. As a further apology, they also offered Rylie 6 months of free bowling once the lift has been installed.

This highlights the everyday problems that disabled people face regarding accessibility issues, and it's great to see a company taking responsibility and fixing the issue.
